Golden RuleThe Belington Revitalization Committee is planning a kickoff party for their fundraising efforts to Save the Golden Rule building.  The Garden Party will be held from 5 to 7:30 pm on Thursday, June 26th in the yard of the Golden Rule building.  Many activities have been planned for the event including free hot dogs, popcorn, corn hole, lawn games, music and more.  The event is being held to bring the community together to celebrate summer and to increase the awareness of the BRC’s efforts to raise the funds needed to purchase the building.

A ceremony will be held at 6 pm including a prayer circle around the Golden Rule building to ask for blessings on the building and the community’s effort to acquire it.   Many arms will be needed to be able to circle such a large building and all are encouraged to come and help surround the building for the blessing ceremony.
While the BRC currently has a purchase agreement with the current owner, there is much to be done in order to raise the money needed to fulfill the purchase agreement.  Tax deductible donations will be accepted during the Garden Party.

The vision for the Golden Rule building resonates with many of the citizens of Belington and those who are passionate about preserving our heritage.  Some work has already been done in an effort to save the building including the 2014 historic preservation designation by Preservation Alliance of West Virginia.  Assessments of the 1902 building have been conducted and suggestions made for the preservation of the building.  Further steps are also being taken to have the building listed on the National Historic Register once acquired.  However, the money needs to be raised first in order to purchase the building and it will take everyone’s help to get that done.

All are encouraged to come and have a good time while they hear about the history of this wonderful old building and the plans for making it a viable asset to Belington again.
